On this page
Safety Quest Limited has been training security guards, law enforcement officers, and first responders across Long Island and New York since 1990. Over 35 years of nationally certified, federally sponsored, and NYS-accredited programs. OSHA compliance training for Fortune 500 companies. HR-218 handgun qualifications for active and retired officers. Concealed carry courses, CPR, first aid, defensive driving.
They had the credentials. They had the reputation. The Better Business Bureau’s highest rating and an unconditional money-back guarantee on most courses. What they did not have was a website that reflected any of it.
The Problem: 35 Years of Expertise, Hidden Behind a Joomla Site
The old website ran on Joomla. Red and black icons laid out in a grid, walls of text, and navigation that required a map to make sense of. It looked like it was built in 2008 because it was.
For a company that trains armed security officers and law enforcement professionals, first impressions matter. When someone lands on your site to evaluate whether they trust you to teach them firearms safety or OSHA compliance, the site itself needs to communicate competence.
The old site did the opposite. It buried critical information behind confusing navigation, mixed course descriptions with registration forms, and gave no visual indication that this was a serious, professional training organization. The result? Almost zero organic search rankings. People found Safety Quest through word of mouth or branded searches, not through Google.
The Design: Authority First, Every Decision
I designed every marketing page on the new site. The goal was clear: make the website feel as professional as the 35 years of training behind it.
The hero section sets the tone immediately. A full-width photo of live firearms training with bold, all-caps typography: “Professional Training Throughout Long Island and New York.” Two CTAs sit below, “Our Programs” and a direct phone number. No ambiguity about what this company does or how to reach them.
The service card system solved the biggest UX problem from the old site. Safety Quest offers a wide range of training programs: NYS Security Training, Law Enforcement HR 218, EMT/First Aid CPR-AED, and OSHA Programs. On the old site, these were scattered across confusing icon grids. The new layout uses four clean cards, each with a red accent border, a clear title, and a concise description. One glance tells you everything the company offers.
Typography and color reinforce authority. The red and black palette nods to Safety Quest’s brand identity (Pantone 485C, Pantone 7622C, Cool Gray 10). Bold, uppercase headers in a strong display font convey seriousness. Body text stays clean and readable. The result feels like a professional training organization, not a generic small business website.
Individual course pages each get their own dedicated layout. The NYS Armed Security Guard Training page, for example, opens with a hero specific to that program, followed by structured training requirements, annual certification details, and a course calendar. The OSHA page follows the same pattern: program overview, compliance benefits, and a submission inquiry form. Every page answers the specific questions that someone considering that training would ask.

The Results: From Zero to 698 Keywords
Before the redesign, the old Joomla site had virtually no organic search presence. People who found Safety Quest were already looking for them by name.
After the launch, the numbers tell a different story:
| Metric | Result |
|---|---|
| Organic Keywords | 698 |
| Monthly Organic Traffic | 911 visits |
| Traffic Value | $1,100/month |
| Backlinks | 172 from 98 referring domains |
| Investment Range | Under $5K |
| Timeline | Q3-Q4 2025 |
The site now holds the #1 position for commercially valuable training keywords:
| Keyword | Position | Monthly Searches |
|---|---|---|
| nassau county concealed carry permit | #1 | 110 |
| hr 218 qualification new york | #1 | 110 |
| security guard certification ny | #1 | 50 |
| safety quest | #1 | 480 |
| nys concealed carry 18 hour course | #1 | 30 |
These are not vanity keywords. Someone searching “nassau county concealed carry permit” is looking to sign up for training. That is a direct path to a paying student.
The site also ranks in the top 5 for dozens of other terms: “armed security guard training ny” (#2), “nys armed security guard license” (#2), “shooting range islip ny” (#5), and “47 hour firearms training course for security guards” (#8).
The AI Visibility Edge
Here is where it gets interesting. Safety Quest does not just rank in traditional search. The site now appears across AI-powered search platforms.
The AI Visibility Score is 24, with content cited across:
- Google AI Overview: 8 mentions, 12 cited pages
- Google AI Mode: 3 mentions, 8 cited pages
- Gemini: 4 mentions, 3 cited pages
- ChatGPT: 0 mentions, 15 cited pages
That adds up to 30 cited pages across AI platforms. When someone asks an AI assistant about security guard training in New York or HR-218 qualifications, Safety Quest’s content is part of what the AI draws from.
This matters because AI search is not a future trend. It is happening now. The training companies that show up in AI results today are building a moat that competitors will struggle to cross later.
What Made This Work
Three things connected the design to the results:
Clear content hierarchy. The old site buried everything in a flat structure. The new design organizes programs into distinct sections with dedicated pages, which gives search engines clear signals about what each page covers.
Professional credibility signals. Real training photography instead of generic icons. Specific course details instead of vague descriptions. A layout that communicates “this organization has been doing this for 35 years” without having to say it.
User-first page structure. Each course page answers the questions someone would ask before enrolling: what is the training, what are the requirements, how long does it take, and how do I sign up. That structure happens to be exactly what search engines reward.
Good web design is not just about looking professional. It is about organizing information so that both people and search engines can find what they need. When you get that right, the SEO results follow.
The Partnership
This project was a collaboration with eSEO Space. I designed the complete UI across every marketing page. eSEO Space handled WordPress development, SEO optimization, content writing, and client communications.
This is a pattern that works well for established businesses with complex offerings. A designer who thinks about how information is structured, paired with a development and SEO team that executes the technical side. The result is a website that looks right, works right, and ranks.
Is This Right for Your Business?
Safety Quest had 35 years of expertise trapped behind a website that did not represent them. If that sounds familiar, if your business has the credentials but your website does not show it, this is the kind of transformation that changes your pipeline.
You do not need a massive budget. This project came in under $5,000. What you need is a clear design that organizes your offerings, communicates your authority, and gives search engines something to work with.

FAQs
How much does a website redesign cost for a training company?
This project was completed for under $5,000, which covered the full UI design across all marketing pages. Development, SEO, and content were handled separately by eSEO Space. A comparable redesign (design only) for a training company with 5-10 distinct program pages typically falls in the $3,000 to $5,000 range. The total cost depends on how many pages you need, whether you need a course calendar or registration system, and whether you are starting from scratch or redesigning an existing site.
How long does it take to see SEO results after a redesign?
Safety Quest launched in Q3-Q4 2025 and by February 2026, the site was ranking for 698 keywords with multiple #1 positions. That is roughly 3-6 months from launch to measurable results. Most sites start seeing ranking improvements within 60-90 days of a well-structured redesign, with the real gains building over 4-8 months as search engines fully index the new content and structure.
What if I already have a website but it looks outdated?
That is exactly the situation Safety Quest was in. They had a working Joomla site with years of content, but the design was holding them back. An outdated website does not just look bad to visitors. It signals to search engines that the content may not be current or authoritative. A modern redesign with proper content structure can unlock rankings for keywords you were invisible on before, even if the underlying information stays the same.
Can a small training business compete online with bigger competitors?
Yes. Safety Quest competes in the same space as larger training organizations like Gold Shield Training (1,700 keywords) and Advanced Security Training NY (1,200 keywords). With 698 keywords and growing, Safety Quest is already in the conversation, and they did it with a fraction of the budget. The key is not spending more. It is having a website that organizes your expertise in a way that search engines can understand and rank.
